Battlefords 1989 F Blake Peake has 13 assists in his last eight games and also leads the Stars in scoring since arriving in a trade with Notre Dame in mid-October (29-7-18-25). Since November 20th, Peake has been held off the scoresheet only three times, which covers a span of eleven games. Estevan 1988 F Richard Jodoin scored in his Bruin debut just before Christmas and his numbers in two partial seasons in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League indicate he could be a major impact player down the stretch. JodoinÕs total in 2007-08 and 2008-09 represents, roughly, one full year (60-43-42-85). Flin Flon 1988 F Reid MacLeod won a scoring title last year and he needed some time to get back to full strength in 2008-09. Now with the goal of an NCAA scholarship behind him and a Christmas Break to recharge, MacLeod looks primed to dominate in the new calendar year. MacLeod has three three point games since December 10. Humboldt The Broncos have an abundance of talent, so all eyes figure to be on the goaltending duo of 1990 G Andrew Bodnarchuk and 1990 G Jeff Holloway. Neither netminder has experience as a number one goalie at the Junior ÔAÕ level, although Bodnarchuk was impressive enough early in the season to get the nod as a back-up with Canada West at the World Junior ÔAÕ Challenge. While, heÕs 5-1 since December 1st, Bodnarchuk has received over five goals a game in offensive support. Kindersley Can the Klippers go back to the Credit Union Cup finals without secondary scoring? One has to think the answer is ÔnoÕ, although they continue to defy the odds and are smack dab in the thick of things with Brett Leedahl-Kirk Pearce-Jordan Braid getting 59 of their 109 goals this season. 1990 F Braeden Adamyk was a major acquistion for the team in mid-November and a lot of the focus will go to him, although 1988 F Kendall Holmes has stepped up with five goals in the month of December. La Ronge The Ice Wolves are in full rebuilding mode, which means this is 1989 F Adam MoarÕs team. Moar had a very good rookie season, and his role that was already expanded heading into the year, figures to be even bigger in January and February. Moar has six points in nine games during the month of December. Melfort The Mustangs are caught in the middle of that ÔbuyÕ or ÔsellÕ phase as January 10 approaches. If 1989 F Gary Childerhose can play a lot like he did towards the end of last season, it could mean the Mustangs will be buyers. 1989 D Tommy Brown also fits into this category. Early in the season, Brown put a lot of pressure on himself to lead a very young team. Now, heÕs the perfect icon for the Mustang season as heÕs, essentially, a 20-year-old based on his scheduled scholarship for next Fall. Melville The Millionaires are anticipating 1989 F Aaron DeCorby to make it back fairly soon after the Christmas break. DeCorbyÕs presence will be the same as making a major trade for an impact forward without having to give anyone up. He had 19 points in 19 games at the time of his injury and he would allow the Mils to throw out three lines with significant offensive capabilities. Nipawin The Hawks had an overhaul just prior to December 1st and it has made them a sexy pick to charge up the standings. So, we canÕt just limit this to one player. Watch for long-term injury players 1988 F Dean Prpick and 1989 F Matt Schneider to come back, see how 1989 D David Hay continues to acclimatize himself to the SJHL, and 1988 F Brent OttmannÕs overall impact on special teams. Notre Dame 1992 F Jaden Schwartz is off to the World Under-17 Hockey Championship and that could have a big impact on Notre DameÕs ability to contend for a playoff spot in the extremely competitive Sherwood Conference. When Jaden and older brother Rylan were at the World Junior ÔAÕ Challenge, the Hounds limped along with a 1-7 record. Weyburn Last season, the Wings faded down the stretch and lost in the Sherwood Conference semi-finals, which was a very uncharacteristic finish for a team known for its big second halves. 1988 D Justin Favreau gives Weyburn the multi-dimensional blueliner the team lacked a season ago and he can also eat plenty of minutes on both specialty teams. He has six points in seven games since coming home from the BCHL. Yorkton The Terriers just donÕt look like they are going to score a ton of goals, so their hopes probably will rise and fall on the shoulders of 1990 G Devin Peters. If his December is any indication on how the second half plays out, Peters (4-1, 1.40, .942) has the team in excellent position to challenge for a deep playoff run.
