SJHL Player of the Week Winner: Preston Shupe, Weyburn Red Wings 1988 F Preston Shupe (Weyburn SK) fired four goals on Friday night as the Wings defeated the La Ronge Ice Wolves. He followed that up with one goal and one assist on Saturday as the Wings fell, in overtime, to Nipawin. For the season, Shupe has caught fire and is challenging for the SJHL scoring crown with 23 goals and 29 assists in 38 games. He has a scholarship for next Fall to Canisius. Runners-up: Levi Lind, Melville; Torrie Dyck, Nipawin; Jaden Schwartz, Notre Dame; Chad Filteau, Estevan; Tory Allan, Humboldt. SJHL Defenseman of the Week Winner: Jesse Lebreton, Battlefords North Stars 1989 D Jesse Lebreton (Mont Laurier PQ) had points in all three games last week as he begins to get his offensive game on track. One of the SJHLÕs most promising rookie puck movers a season ago, Lebreton had his best week of the 2008-09 season with four goals and two assists in three games. He had two goals and one assist in an overtime win over Melville on Friday. Two nights earlier, he scored twice in Flin Flon. He also had a point last Tuesday against La Ronge. For the year, Lebreton has 15 points in 35 games. Runners-up: Tanner Vandesype, Humboldt; Ty Ariss, Estevan; Jordan Reeve, Melville. SJHL Goaltender of the Week Winner: Matt Weninger, Flin Flon Bombers 1989 G Matt Weninger (Lethbridge AB) has been a rock between the pipes for the Bombers since coming over in an acquisition with Kindersley earlier this season. Even when the club has struggled, Weninger has given Flin Flon a chance to win most nights. Last week, he posted a 2-1 record to go with a 1.52-GAA and a .944-SPCT. Overall, heÕs 6-6 as a Bomber. He also has a 3.61-GAA and .889-SPCT. Runners-up: Travis Bosch, Melville; Kyle Birch, Battlefords; Brett Willows, Estevan.
