Player of the Week Winner: Rhett Bly, Weyburn Red Wings 1989 F Rhett Bly (Regina SK) scored three goals and four assists in three games played as the Red Wings have assumed control of first place in the Sherwood Conference. Bly had one goal and one assist last Monday and Tuesday in wins over La Ronge. He picked up a goal and two helpers in Friday's victory over Yorkton. For the season, Bly is ranked 6th in the league in points with 58 (24 goals, 34 assists). Runners-up: Kirk Pearce, Kindersley; Brett Leedahl, Kindersley; Preston Shupe, Weyburn; Mike Rey, Nipawin. Defenseman of the Week Winner: Tanner Vandesype, Humboldt Broncos 1988 D Tanner Vandesype (Radville SK) has had a marvelous season, although much of it has been in the shadow of Brady Wacker. Vandesype has always been a lethal offensive player and with six points in three games last week, he continues to play at well above a point per game pace with 18-goals and 34 assists in 44 games, which ranks him second amongst SJHL blueliners in scoring, behind only Wacker. Vandesype's defensive play has grown in his 20-year-old season as well. Runners-up: Tommy Brown, Melfort; Brady Wacker, Humboldt; Greg Coburn, Yorkton. Goaltender of the Week Winner: Tommy Legault, Estevan Bruins 1988 G Tommy Legault (Magog PQ) stopped 69-of-71 shots last week, backstopping the Bruins to a pair of wins and putting them in the mix for possibly getting into the top three in the Sherwood Conference. With established major junior netminder Shayne Barrie now in the fold, Legault stepped up his already solid game another notch, registering a 0.96-GAA and .971-SPCT. For the season, Legault ranks third in the league in minutes played and fifth in wins. Runners-up: Ryan Nieszner, Kindersley; Mathieu Larochelle, Humboldt; Wyatt Waselenchuk, Nipawin; Ryan Kerpan, Flin Flon.
