Player of the Week Winner: Travis Janke, Notre Dame Hounds 1989 F Travis Janke (Swift Current SK) has been on fire since late November and he wins the SJHL Player Of The Week award for the second time this month. Janke fired three goals and five assists in three games played for the Hounds, who went 2-and-1 over that time frame and are now challenging for first place in the Sherwood Conference. Janke started the week with two goals and one assist against Melfort last Wednesday. He had a goal and two helpers on Friday versus the Bruins. He closed it out with two assists in a 2-1 victory on Saturday over Humboldt. Overall, he's up to 44 points in 33 games. Runners-up: Doug Lindensmith, La Ronge; David Skagen, Nipawin; Kyle Ireland, Notre Dame; Rodney Cowie, Weyburn. Defenseman of the Week Winner: Taylor Thiessen, Flin Flon Bombers 1989 D Taylor Thiessen (Prince Albert SK) is an extremely valuable offensive weapon on the back end for the Flin Flon Bombers. Thiessen helped guide the Bombers to three wins in four games last week and scored goals in three of those contests. He now has an SJHL defenseman league leading 16 goals to go along with 15 assists in 37 games overall. Since joining Flin Flon on December 1st, Thiessen has four goals and two assists in nine games. Runners-up: Blayne Stevenson, Notre Dame; Lee Christensen, Melfort; Patrick Howey, Nipawin; Dustin Stevenson, La Ronge. Goaltender of the Week Winner: AJ Whiffen, Weyburn Red Wings 1989 G AJ Whiffen (Grand Falls-Windsor NF) has had an outstanding season so far and it continued last week as he allowed just one goal in two starts to finish 2-0, 0.50, .984. Whiffen stopped 60-of-61 shots and has lowered his season GAA to 2.42 to go along with 12-2-0-and-3 record and a SPCT of .918. Whiffen, in 18 appearances this year, has allowed three goals or fewer in 16 starts. If you were to throw out the one-game in which he allowed twelve, Whiffen's season GAA would be a miniscule 1.87 and he'd be, otherwise, challenging the SJHL season record for lowest GAA. Runners-up: Kirk Croswell, Humboldt; Josh Thorimbert, Kindersley; Matthew Smidt, Notre Dame. (For the week of Dec. 21).
