The Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League has announced 20-year-old Estevan forward Bear Trapp as the Sherwood Player of the Month for December. Trapp, who was traded to the Estevan Bruins early in the month from the Melville Millionaires, finished with 19 points on eight goals and 11 assists in 11 games. Trapp is second in the overall SJHL scoring race with 25 goals and 37 assists in 44 games. He trails Kindersley's Troy Schwab by fourteen points. Trapp's 19 points tied Michael George of the Battlefords North Stars for the highest total during the month. Other players considered were George (five goals, 14 assists in 11 games), Lance Herauf of the Yorkton Terriers (13-10-8-18), Stars forward Jesse Matlock (11-8-9-17) and Estevan's Lorne Tytlandsvik (11-10-6-16). The SJHL Itech Goaltender of the Month is 18-year-old Nathan Heinen of the Humboldt Broncos. Heinen, who was grabbed by the WHL's Regina Pats during the Christmas Break only to be returned a couple of weeks later, has been a godsend for the Broncos. With Nathan Fischl injured over the last couple of weeks, the rookie has earned a share of the starting role. He went 5-and-2 with a 2.60-GAA and .913-SPCT in the month of January. For the season, his 2.51-GAA is fifth best in the SJHL. His .923-SPCT is fourth best. Overall, Heinen is 11-and-8. Other players considered were Yorkton's Kevin Dziaduck (5-3-1, 2.64, .912) and Brenden Cuthbert of the Weyburn Red Wings (4-4-2, 2.66, .910).
