Kelly Carrington Staff Writer With May being Northern Physical Activity Month in Saskatchewan, Creighton is offering residents opportunities to get moving. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, the Oval of Dreams is open to the public for a morning walk with Channa Senyk and Crystal Banting of the Town of Creighton Culture, Tourism and Recreation building. The walking tour started last week with 10 residents out the first day and 12 out the next time. Senyk and Banting brought physical activity to the Creighton Community School playground as they held 'banana olympics' last week, offering a variety of games with bananas. Coming up, the two will hold a Zumba class in the school gymnasium. For the younger students at the school, Senyk and Banting will be leading a Treasure Walk where the Pre-K and Kindergarten classes will walk to local businesses for treasures. The group will end at the Kids First North office, where each child will be weighed and measured. Celebrity socccer Nearing the end of the month, the Creighton Community Soccer Field will host to a local celebrity soccer game. Ending out Northern Physical Activity Month, members of the media, RCMP, and other prominent organizations in the area will compete against the ladies' soccer team. Northern Physical Activity Month covers all of Saskatchewan and encourages children to be active 90 minutes a day. The 30-30-30 program urges children to be physically active for 30 minutes in their community by playing soccer or other organized sports; 30 minutes in school by playing on the playground; and 30 minutes at home with activities like riding a bike. This year marks the eighth year for the month-long program. Last year, 15,421 residents in 22 northern communities, including Creighton, participated.
