With the hockey season coming to an end, the Peewee A Provincials were in town recently as teams from Flin Flon, The Pas, Thompson, Dauphin, Brandon, Portage, Swan River and Steinbach fought for the gold. Although the Bombers didnÕt do as well as they had hope, coach Terry Grindle says things still went well. ÒThe boys did very well,Ó he says. Without playing some of the teams from the South before, Grindle says everyone was pretty equal. ÒAll the teams were fairly well matched, except the teams from Dauphin and Brandon. They were weaker than we thought, which was was a big surprise,Ó says the coach. After coming in fourth place in the tournament, Grindle says the Bombers were disappointed with the game, but says he thought they outplayed the other teams. ÒWe thought we had a very good chance at winning it all and the kids have improved a lot over the year,Ó he says. ÒWe played Portage in the semi final (in the consolation game) and we lost it 2-1 in the last few minutes. ÒWe outplayed them,Ó he says, Òbut we had one little bad break and they got the goal to beat us.Ó Grindle credits both goalies, as they played well. But it was Portage who walked away with the gold for this year.
