The Flin Flon Pee Wee A's travelled to Prince Albert this weekend. They played in a Tier II tournament which included four teams from Prince Albert and a Tier II team from Edmonton (out of 94 Pee Wee teams they are ranked approximately 14th). Flin Flon's first game was against the host P.A. Stars which turned out to be an exciting 5-5 tie. With both Flin Flon and the Stars having one win and one tie, it went to a tie breaking system which gave the Stars first and Flin Flon second. In the quarter finals Sunday morning, Flin Flon played the P.A. Sharks and won 5-2. That moved them into the semi-finals against the Edmonton Hawks. With only 1 1/2 hours between the games, Flin Flon battled Edmonton to a 1-1 tie after the first. With an injury in a previous tournament, a very questionable hitting from behind suspension and two injuries in the first period, Flin Flon went out to start the second period with only 11 skaters. The boys gave it every thing they had, playing hard right to the final buzzer, but they just ran out of gas with Edmonton scoring 3 in the second and 4 in the third for an 8-1 win. Edmonton then went on to beat the Stars in the finals. The A's had a very successful year with a tournament record of 15-3-1 winning two tournaments. They will be going to provincials in Portage March 11-13. The Pee Wee A's wish all the Flin Flon teams good luck at their provincials.
