Flon Flon played host to a tournament for Pee Wee 'A' and 'AA' teams this past weekend, with games taking place over three days at the Whitney Forum and Creighton Sportex. Seven 'A' teams were competing for the Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation Cup, while five 'AA' teams battled for the Liberty Tax Service Cup. The Flin Flon Pee Wee 'A' Bombers won the PBCN Cup, while the 'AA' Bombers played hard but were edged out of the playoff round due to the tie-breaking formula. Friday, the Pee Wee 'A' Bombers opened the tournament with a 6-1 win over OCN, and Lloyd Kawa was the game star for Flin Flon. On Saturday morning they pounded Norway House 14-0. Dillan McCombie was the game star with a hat trick. Tyler Fullowka also had a hat trick, and Scott Danko picked up a shut out award. The two wins put Flin Flon in the semifinal against Thompson on Saturday night, which they won 6-3. Randall Custer and Scott Danko shared the game star award. On Sunday afternoon, Flin Flon met the Dauphin Kings in the final, where the Bombers came out ahead 6-4. Flin Flon led 3-1 after the first period, but allowed Dauphin to tie the game early in the third period. The Bombers scored three quick goals to jump ahead 6-3 and the Kings never recovered. Rylan Veitch was the game star. The Pee Wee 'A' Bombers have a tournament in Prince Albert this weekend, and will end the season with Provincials in Portage la Prairie in March. The Flin Flon Pee Wee 'AA' Bombers played four games on the weekend, but ended up on the outside looking in as the playoff round began. They started the tournament with a 5-5 tie with The Pas. Against Norway House the Bombers were edged out 6-5, and were beat 5-0 by Swan River on superb goaltending. They finished the tournament with a 6-5 win over their rivals from Thompson. Unfortunately, when the tie-breaking formula was used, the Bombers ended up in fifth place after the round robin and out of the playoffs. Thompson and The Pas met in the final, where the King Miners beat the Huskies 3-2 to capture the gold. The 'AA' Bombers may have an exhibition series against Thompson before competing at Provincials in The Pas starting March 11.
