Kelly Carrington Staff Writer A little bit of sunshine mixed with rain set the stage for a great weekend of slo pitch as the annual Flin Flon Creighton Slo Pitch Open Tournament was held between the Centoba and Creighton ball diamonds. On the A side of the finals, first place went to Damaged Leftovers Ð a team from The Pas Ð while second place went to the Red Sox, from Swan River. Flin Flon's teams made their appearance in the A side as the Evil Marsupials took third with SWAT coming in fourth place. On the B Side, Jays Dirty Dozen took first place over Morning Wood. Bandwagon earned their third place finish over the Plain White Tees. Big cash prizes were handed out this weekend from the Flin Flon Creighton Slo Pitch bank account as $4,000 left the fields. On the A side, $1,500 was up for grabs while second place took home $750. Third place earned themselves $500 and $300 went to fourth place. On the B Side, first place took home $500 with $300 going to second and $150 to third place. With money on the line during the Open Tournament, umpires were used to call the game. At the end of the tournament, Flin Flon Creighton Slo Pitch League president Trevor Thompson invited all teams to the Jason Morran Memorial Tournament to be held in two weeks. With no prize money on the line, the tournament acts as a fundraiser in Morran's honour. Through the money raised, improvements and upgrades to local parks are able to be completed. The Morran tournament runs July 22 and 23.
