Canadian Junior 'A' Hockey League members present during a two-day meeting in Grande Prairie announced that they unanimously oppose amendments being proposed to Hockey Canada regulations that would, among other things: Prevent 16-year-olds from registering with junior teams outside the Canadian Hockey League (major junior) Place limits on U.S. players registering with junior teams. After hearing from representatives of the Hockey Canada committee which will propose these changes, the CJAHL is concerned that this committee has not met its original mandate. Most junior leagues also require further time to properly document the impact of the proposed changes, which will be presented as a package of motions at the Hockey Canada annual general meeting in Thunder Bay, Ont., next weekend. The CJAHL members feel that the Hockey Canada committee that issued the recommendations failed to bring back a report to its membership prior to putting forth formal motions. The CJAHL is comprised of 137 teams in 10 member leagues from Nova Scotia to British Columbia.
