The 23rd Flin Flon Open Dart Championships take place this weekend at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #73. It promises to be one of the largest turnouts of dart players in the annual event's history. Players are expected from Ontario, Saskatchewan, and Alberta and will be competing against some of the best players in Canada from the home Province of Manitoba. Canada's National Singles Champion Rory Orvis is planning to make the trip as well as Gerry Convery who is presently at the top of the Canadian National Dart Federations ranking list. Local support from local businesses has been excellent. The prize pay out for the tournament is anticipated to be on a par with a National Ranked event. There is also an additional incentive for players to travel up to Flin Flon with a chance to win an additional $800 for the first 170 finish in a regular event. The games get underway at 8 p.m. on Friday night with a Blind Draw. The Men's and Ladies' Singles, Doubles and Mixed Doubles will take place over Saturday and Sunday. As usual there will be lots of support from the local dart players and their fans. In other local dart news, Branch #73, District #1 North representatives captured the Manitoba and North Western Ontario Command Team Championships in Marathon, Ontario last weekend. The team of Kevin Nash, Bob Riehl, Sonny Audet and Brian Humphreys will now participate at the Dominion Championships in Chester, Nova Scotia over the May long weekend.
