Kelly Carrington Staff Writer With only six games left on the Bomber schedule for the regular season, Flin Flon was hoping to claim 12 points to move up in the standings. That won't happen as last Wednesday night the La Ronge Ice Wolves proved their status as the top team in the SJHL by schooling the Bombers 8-1. With only five games left on the docket for the Bombers, they hoped to kick start the weekend right as they hosted the Battlefords North Stars in a double-header on Friday and Saturday, after The Reminder went to press. Wednesday night, the Maroon and White got off to a good start, but it was cut short. Riley Storzuk scored the lone goal for the Bombers, at the 32-second mark of the first period, with help from Jonathon Young and Tanner Clark. Taking the bull by the horns early on, the Bombers hoped to continue their success but were denied as the Ice Wolves scored twice against before the end of the period. Sitting at 2-1, the home team came out with a vengeance in the second period and earned four more goals against Bombers goalie Randy Graham. The Bombers fired off only eight shots in the second period, none of which were good for a goal. The Ice Wolves, on the other hand, had 18 shots on Graham. In the third period, a lonesome six shots were fired off by the Bombers. Eighteen more shots came to Graham, two of which were goals. With eight goals on the board, the Ice Wolves worked well on the power play, earning two goals on five chances. The Bombers missed their three chances. Next on the docket, the Bombers are in Nipawin on Monday, for a make-up game, and Battleford the next night. The Bombers will play their final regular season game next Tuesday as they host the Battlefords North Stars.
