The 2006 OCN Blizzard Jr. "A" Hockey Club's Banquet and Awards night took place on April 10th. Approximately 80 guests were in attendance to witness Blizzard players being recognized. They were: Hardest Working Player of the Year Ð Chase Cunningham; The Human Wreaking Ball Ð Ryan Constant; Three Star Award Winner Ð Matt Summers; Scholastic Award Ð Lem Randall. Smalley then called upon the coaching staff to help present the Team awards. The awards and their winners were: Top Scorer Ð Matt Summers; Top Defenseman Ð Ryan Constant; Most Popular Player (shared this year) Ð Matt Summers and Chase Cunningham; Community Involvement Ð Brian Schallenhammer; Top Rookie Ð Dane Voegtlin; Most Sportsmanlike Ð Miguel Rondeau; Plus/Minus Award Ð Ryan Constant; Most Improved Ð Scott Sack; Hardest Working Player Ð Chase Cunningham; Most Dedicated Player Ð Joel Jackson; MVP Regular Season Ð Ryan Constant; MVP Playoffs Ð Mark Kehrig. Subsequent to these awards, the Booster Club asked the departing 20-year-olds to come forward. After thanking them for their "Blood, Sweat and Tears over the year, Brian Schallenhammer, Ryan Constant, Donald Melnyk, Joel Jackson, Mark Kehrig, Ryan Blatchford, Mike Revell, and Kyle Annesley were presented with beautifully handcrafted black leather gauntlet gloves (with the Blizzard logo and their names beaded onto them) as well as inscribed Cardinal watches. Smalley ended the awards ceremony with his thanks to the team, staff, and people of the area. Summing up the evening with all the style, excitement, and eloquence he has displayed as the voice of the Blizzard throughout the past two seasons, Smalley wrapped up by stating, "There's no place I'd rather call hockey."
