Kelly Carrington Staff Writer Seven locals have earned roster spots with the Thompson-based Norman Northstars Midget AAA hockey team. Flin Flonners Aaron Beauchamp, Boyd Langan, Riley McDonald, Evan Akkerman and twin bothers Teagan and Tavish Quinn are hitting the ice this season along with Creightonite Brendan Barron. Eight games into the regular season, they are competing hard. Among the locals, Akkerman ranked first in scoring with eight points _ four goals and four assists _ in eight games. That put him second in team scoring. Right underneath Akkerman is Barron, who picked up five goals and one assist in eight games, tying him for third in team scoring. Langan is tied for fifth in team scoring with five points _ one goal and four assists _ in eight games. Tied for ninth in team scoring is Beauchamp. The defenseman has two points _ both assists _ in six games. Tavish sat right behind Beauchamp in the rankings, tied for 12th in team scoring with one point, a goal in eight games. His twin Teagan has been held off the scoresheet in eight games. The same goes for McDonald, who has played one game. The Northstars host a double-header weekend with the Interlake Lightning with game one getting underway tonight. The Northstars enter tonight with a 2-6-0 record, placing them fourth in the Eastern Division with four points. The Winnipeg Thrashers held first in the East with a 7-1-0 record for 14 points. The Interlake Lightning sat in sixth in the same conference with a 1-5-0 record, good for just two points. In the Western Division, the Yellowhead Chiefs held first place with 12 points and a 6-2-0 record. The Parkland Rangers were last in that conference with two points thanks to a 1-6-0 record. November Norman will host the Chiefs for a double-header next weekend to get the month of November started. The Northstars will face the Chiefs, Thrashers, Pembina Valley Hawks, Central Plains Capitals, Southwest Cougars, and Parkland Rangers throughout the next month.
