After dropping two important games last weekend against the Eastman Selects, the NorMan Northstars handily swept the Interlake Lightening this past weekend. The Lightening have been picking up momentum as of late and it was a must win situation for the team from the North. The Northstars never gave up the lead in Saturday nights game leading 2-0 after the first and 4-2 after the second period. They did pot one more goal to beat the Lightening 5-2. Kajon Mckay again did not disappoint. The 15-year-old returned from injury last weekend and hit the game sheet with three assists. The Interlake Lightening goalie was quite familiar with number 26, as Mckay found the back of the net three times. Kyle Stephansson and Jordan Crone rounded out the scoring for the night. Corey Dupre is one of the Northstars top penalty killers and did a great job, not allowing any goals on his shifts. Sundays game was all NorMan again. Interlake was well rested and did put some serious pressure on the Northstars. NorManÕs Northstars led 2-1 after 40 minutes of play. Ryan Delorme of The Pas was stellar between the pipes, allowing only one goal giving the Northstars a 4-1 win. Crone, Rorie Mckie, Brent Wilson and Mckay scored for the Northstars. Delorme was named Player of the Game and Tanner Korchinski received Crunch of the Game. With only seven games remaining in the season, the NorMan Northstars have battled every weekend. Their efforts are most noted in the statistic of points at home. They have earned at least one point in every home series they have played. The big test will come for the Northstars when the mighty Winnipeg Thrashers grace the CA Nesbitt arena, January 27 and 28th. Hopefully this point generating statistic will stand up for the remainder of the season. The Northstars record stands at 16-13-1-3. Their next match up takes place in Thompson this weekend, against the Yellowhead Chiefs. Go Northstars!!
