Thirty years ago Kang's Taekwondo Academy was founded by grand master, Joo Won Kang. To celebrate, Master King Yeung is traveling to the six regions and conducting seminars. The class in Flin Flon for the Norman region was the second stop. "Oh yeah," Master Yeung said, as he was excited to be there. Master Yeung, a 7th degree Black Belt and Chief Head Instructor of Winnipeg's Headquarters, said the goal is to improve the mental and technical skills for all the students that come for the two-and-a-half to three hour class. Flin Flon Master Andy Jedele assisted Master Yeung. Master Jedele was nervous because this is the first local seminar like this and it's been something that everyone has been looking forward to. "I'm very thankful that he brought top competition from junior nationals," Master Jedele said. "I'm looking forward for our students to see top quality competitors. "I plan to learn as well," he said. "Just because I'm old, doesn't mean I know everything." Master Yeung is also using this opportunity to scout any potential junior and senior competitors for competition because some from the north usually get left out. Master Luan Tolosa, 17, has been in Taekwondo for seven to eight years and she likes everything about it. "It's a lot of hard work, but it pays off in the end," Master Luan said. A provincial champion the last two years as well as a junior national patterns champion, Luan looked forward to seeing different members at the Flin Flon club and their skills. Master Aaron Chigol, joined the Flin Flon club seven years ago and likes the family atmosphere that exists. He works with Jedele, who told him it's a good way to improve fitness. He was looking forward to Yeung's visit because "you don't get the opportunity to see him." Chigol also hoped to learn from the other students . While all the students came to learn, they're also part of the 30th anniversary that brings a sense of pride. "It makes you appreciate your club more," Luan said, especially because she's been part of other clubs. Chigol said there's something to be proud of especially when it started small and has grown like it has. Both Master Yeung and Jedele said that the club has lasted so long because of the quality of instruction, which in the case of Kang's Taekwondo Academy, comes from headquarters in Winnipeg. There were roughly 30 to 40 students in the seminar.
