The Manitoba Junior Hockey League wishes to announce that a business group from Thompson, Manitoba has withdrawn its offer to purchase the St. James Canadians and relocate the franchise to Thompson. In May 2003, the St. James Canadians received approval from the MJHL Board of Governors for a one year leave of absence. Simultaneously, the St. James Canadians entered into an agreement with a business group from Thompson to purchase the St. James franchise. The Thompson business group had planned to relocate the St. James franchise to Thompson. The relocation of a MJHL franchise requires the approval of the MJHL Board of Governors. Regrettably, the two sides were not able to work out a suitable deal that would have seen Thompson join the League at this time. The Manitoba Junior Hockey League has added three new franchises to the League in the past seven years. The MJHL feels the community of Thompson has the potential to be a strong Junior A hockey market and hopes that one day the circumstances may exist for Thompson to join the League.
