The Flin Flon Bombers' 4-3 loss to the La Ronge Ice Wolves on Tuesday night is the seventh time they have lost by a single goal. Some games include a couple empty-net goals, but the offense runs out before the Bombers can even things up. During the game, the Bombers had at least six solid scoring chances after Dalton Pajak netted his second of the game and ninth of the season early in the third to give the Bombers a 3-2 lead. Pajak was hungry for the hat-trick, which no Bomber has managed to do yet this season, while Brett Needham was trying to cash in his second the of the game and third of the season. Bombers play-by-play announcer Rob Hart seemed amazed with the chances the Bombers couldn't cash in on as Ice Wolves goalie Kody Vanrentergem played excellent in the third period after giving up two goals in the first. The Bombers outshot the Ice Wolves 16-7 in the first then were outshot 28-22 and outscored 4-1 the next two periods. The power-play continues to be a sore spot as the Bombers went 0-8. That's odd considering the team doesn't have a problem scoring five-on-five on most nights. One positive on the special teams was that Pajak earned a short-handed goal. The Bombers played a good game and received solid netminding from Travis Crickard, who made his first start against La Ronge and third of the season. In a losing effort, Crickard made 34 saves and gave his team a chance to win. Defenseman Evan Smith, playing his third game with the team picked up an assist on Needham's goal. Richard Dupre picked up the other assist. The Ice Wolves offense came from Riley Doell, Joseph Cook, and Codie Pedersen, who had two goals and an assist. The Bombers are now sitting at 4-15-0-1 after 20 games. They are three points ahead of the Kindersley Klippers for the final playoff spot and have two games in hand. Under interim coach/GM Brad Snyder, the team is 3-6-0-1. They have yet to win a game on the road under his guidance though and will return to La Ronge for their game on Sunday. Due to press time, Brad Snyder wasn't available for comments.
