Rookie Kyle Turris scored three goals and one assist on Sunday as the Burnaby Express defeated the Yorkton Terriers 8-2 in the championship final of the 2006 RBC Royal Bank Cup. The Terriers were sunk early as Turris lit the lamp on the power play and then accepted a pass at the end of a penalty to score on an odd man rush to make it 2-0. It was 3-0 as Steve Cunningham batted a puck out of the air after Brett Bothwell made the original save and the game was only 12-minutes old. An early second period short-handed goal from Mark Soares upped the lead to 4-0. Turris finished the hat trick at 11:22 and then Mark Santorelli made it 6-0 a minute after that, ending the night for Bothwell, who made 11 saves. Dustin Nehring and Chris Cook narrowed the margin to four, but in the third period, the Express tacked on two more courtesy of Paul Crowder and Keith Seabrook. Shots were 34-29 in favour of Burnaby. With Yorkton playing in the final, it marks the fifth time in the last six years (Weyburn won in 2005, Kindersley came second in 2004, Humboldt won in 2003, Flin Flon was a runner up in 2001), that an SJHL team played in the championship game.
