Flipping over the calendar hasn't done anything to help the Flin Flon Bombers, as their first game of 2005 brought more of the same old story in an 8-2 loss on Sunday night against the La Ronge Ice Wolves. Michael Pilote picked up his second win against his old team, stopping 21 shots, while Francois Laverdiere allowed eight goals on 45 shots. Half of the Wolves' eight goals were scored during six power play chances, while the Bombers were held scoreless on six tries with the extra attacker. Braden Olszewski opened the scoring at 4:07 from Kyle Gladue and Kris Desjarlais. Richard Dupre tied the game for Flin Flon at 4:29, but that was as close as the Bombers would get. Mike McKinna and Andrew Leslie assisted on the goal. Tanner Shultz scored at 6:42 from Keith Spencer and Dillon Henningson, and Drew Rose netted the eventual game-winner at 10:05 with a power play goal assisted by Olszewski and Desjarlais. Garett Roenspies made it 4-1 at 1:43 of the second period assisted by Riley Jones and Doug Exner. Andrew Leslie's goal at 9:37 from David Holinaty was his second of the season to make it a 4-2 game. Henningson scored at 12:13 on the power play and it was 5-2 after 40 minutes of play. Desjarlais scored at 2:36 of the third period to take Flin Flon completely out of the game, with Gladue and Roenspies assisting. At 4:34 Rose scored his second power play goal of the game from Tanner Shultz and Henningson, and then at 8:45 Henningson scored his second power play goal of the game, assisted by TJ Schneider and Barrett Brook. With the loss, the Bombers dropped their record to 5-25-5-2 in 37 games. They are still looking for their first road win of the season, and will have an opportunity in Battleford on Friday and Kindersley on Saturday before returning to the Whitney Forum on January 11 for a game against the Nipawin Hawks.
