If you have taken a walk through the Whitney Forum lately, you might have noticed some much taller pieces surrounding the ice surface. The City of Flin Flon, along with the assistance of a contractor, have been working on getting new sheets of glass up for the upcoming season. The glass is in, but it isn't completely done. The rink, however, is ready to go. "(This is a) wonderful improvement to the facility," says Flin Flon recreation director Brenda Russell. "And," she adds, "it's safer for people watching the games." Along with safety benefits, Russell says there is another important issue to consider. "With the new glass, it's going to make the forum more energy efficient," she says. The project has been underway for just under a month, and should be finishing up soon. It will be getting its first real use this season from the Roller Goodwin Memorial Tournament, which begins today. The Xtreme Hockey School is set to hit the ice on August 19 and the Bombers will be taking up their time toward the end of the month for training. The work was funded through a financial partnership with the City of Flin Flon and the Manitoba government. "There are just some little things left to finish up before it's completely done," says Russell.
