After growing up in Flin Flon-Creighton, Channa Senyk has a grasp on how things are done as far as recreation goes. For the past month she has been feeling her way around as the new rec director for Creighton. And she says she is pleased with the way things have been going. There are some things already going through her mind for the community, but she says "rec doesn't just mean sports." "I would like to have more one on one time with seniors and get more programming out there for them," she says. Senyk says there are a lot of seniors out there who have questions but don't know where to turn. "Through a program we can bring someone in who has the answers they are looking for," she says. And as far as sports go, she says she has been talking to some of the youth in the skateboard park. "I'm looking to find out what they want, what they don't want," she says. "I'm trying to begin my network with them." Senyk says when it comes to the job she is aware of the busy schedule, but she says, "the girls in the office have been really great." Her initial feeling was excitement and as she's come to notice, each day gets a little easier. Being rec director is a very hands-on job and Senyk says she wants to get people more active. In Motion has been started in both Flin Flon and Creighton and Senyk says it's a great way for people to get active. "Right now we are putting people's names in a draw for a mountain bike, which will be drawn at the end of August," she explains. "All you have to do is be 'caught' in motion." Senyk says this could be anything from riding your bike to walking down the street. Senyk says In Motion is just one way to help get people going. Other ideas are brewing in her head, but she says she is always open to suggestions. Senyk replaces Cindy Davis as the town's rec director.
