Jonathon Naylor Editor The Flin Flon Aqua Centre is making quite a splash with a colourful new look. The facility reopened Tuesday, a month after closing for extensive painting and some minor renovations. "People are quite thrilled," said Heather Chrupalo, aquatic supervisor. "The question that they ask is, 'Did the staff do this?' And we say, 'Yep, they did a great job.'" With the exception of the weight room, the building's interior was repainted from top to bottom. Even the pool was drained to permit a fresh coat. Along the walls near the pool, swimmers will notice the addition of two logos: those of the Flin Flon Aqua Jets and the Flin Flon Aqua Doves swim teams. New floorboards were installed in the sauna and new benches are to be put in place in the changerooms within the next couple of weeks. In the showers, some tilework was undertaken. Chrupalo said it has been about six years since the Aqua Centre underwent such a significant overhaul. In an effort to lure swimmers back to the pool, the city will be offering free one-week trial passes to anyone who does not have a membership. The offer begins this Monday and runs until August 31. Also during that period, anyone who buys a yearly membership will receive a 13th month free. For more information, drop by the Aqua Centre or call them at 681-7540.
