The new executive for the Phantom Lake Soccer Club have begun working towards making the 2005 soccer season a success. President Dean Grove and vice president Brian Gold, together with a dedicated executive, hope to make next season every much a success as in previous years. Some issues that require immediate attention are the condition of the Phantom Lake soccer field, and the construction of a new soccer field in Creighton. Phantom Lake soccer field suffered severe vandalism to the playing surface this fall. It is now doubtful if soccer can be played safely on this surface next season. The vehicle tracks left in the surface are over five inches deep in places, presenting a danger of injury to players. It is estimated that over 1000 square yards of sod will be required to repair the playing surface, with sub soil required to repair tracks, the cost will be a considerable drain to the club's limited resources. Soccer facilities executive member Don Kirkham is now actively looking at alternative locations for soccer fields in the Flin Flon and Creighton area. The good news is that the town of Creighton is building a new full size soccer field, adjacent to the wading pool. The Phantom Lake Soccer Club has committed to contribute $10,000 to the project, which is due to start in the spring of 2005. This will mean that the 2006 soccer season will see two perfect playing surfaces. The focus regarding fields will then shift to revitalizing one of the other soccer fields in town. We wish to acknowledge all those who volunteered last year to make our past season a success. The year did not go without some problems, but thanks to the help of a superb group of volunteers the season ended as a success.
