The Kindersley Klippers have found a replacement for Dave Hunchak. Darrin Krueger, 35, has been handed control of the defending SJHL Membercare Cup champions after the team's Executive went on a lengthy hunt that resulted in numerous high level applicants; however Governor Larry Stevens says his group feels most comfortable with Krueger and his passion for success. Krueger retired from his professional playing days four years ago and has been in Canmore with the AJHL's Eagles assisting Bob Miller ever since. Krueger is a former SJHLer and also played in the Western Hockey League, winning the 1989 Memorial Cup with Swift Current. Incidentally, Swift Current is also Krueger's hometown. Krueger went on to play with the University of Calgary and also spent nine years in Germany and an additional year playing in Switzerland. He played in the same league that current Yorkton Terrier coach Ed Zawatsky starred in and Krueger was also coached for a year by Melville bench boss Jamie Fiesel. "I'm a young guy with a competitive nature. I love to have success and I hope I can jump right in and enjoy some of the success that the Klippers have already had. I think I'm ready for this challenge. Bob Miller taught me a lot and on a personal level this is a great move for my family. We love rural Saskatchewan. And, Kindersley is a lot like Swift Current," said Krueger. "I've been playing without the red line over in Europe for the last fifteen years; so maybe I can add my own little spice to that part of the game too," joked Krueger. Hiring a replacement for Hunchak became necessary after he accepted an assistant's role with the WHL's Broncos.
