The Flin Flon Bombers took another knock on the chin Wednesday night from the hands of the Melfort Mustangs, losing 6-1 on the road. Flin Flon was hoping to avenge an 11-3 loss to the Mustangs from Saturday night, but instead were embarrassed by Melfort's power play, who scored four goals on 10 chances. Three weeks ago in Flin Flon, the Mustangs couldn't score during a six-on-three advantage for six minutes, but on Wednesday night either Flin Flon's penalty killers were off or Melfort's power play unit was on fire. The Mustangs scored two with the extra attacker in the first period, and then two more in the third period. Taylor Watt opened the scoring with a power-play goal at 11:07, and then Robbie Holoien chipped in with his second of the season at 13:11 to make it 2-0 after the first period. Flin Flon was out shot 14-7 in the first period, but settled down in the second frame. Clayton Geiger scored the only goal of the second at 16:01 on a power play, assisted by Bradyn McCullough. The Bombers were owned by the Mustangs in the third period, as Melfort out shot the Bombers 20-7 and scored four unanswered goals. Chad Richardson popped a goal just 59 seconds from the opening face off. Kurtis Astle scored a power-play goal at 4:40 to make it 4-1. At 10:36, Nathan Brummit scored his third of the season, and at 18:57 a power-play goal from Nick VanDenBeld closed the scoring with a power-play goal. Final shots on net were 44-22 in favour of the Mustangs. Flin Flon couldn't get their power play on track, scoring once on 11 chances. The Bombers will have a week to prepare for the Battlefords North Stars, who will be in town for a pair of games on February 11 and 12. The Bombers will play their final game against the Mustangs on February 16 in Melfort, and play their final home game of 2004-05 against the La Ronge Ice Wolves on February 18. On February 19, the final buzzer will sound on this forgettable season as the Bombers close the schedule with a game in La Ronge.4/2/05
