Hockey Canada announced earlier last month details on an internal restructuring that includes the naming of four new vice-presidents who will be added to the organization's executive committee, a new international events department within the marketing servicing/events department and chief operating officer Scott Smith overseeing all day-to-day operations of the organization moving forward. Hockey Canada president and CEO Bob Nicholson, in collaboration with executive committee members Scott Smith, chief operating officer, and Paul Delparte, chief financial officer, announced the nominations of Paul Carson as vice-president of hockey development, Scott Farley as vice-president of marketing services and events, Glen McCurdie as vice-president of membership services and Brad Pascall as vice-president of hockey operations/national teams. Moving forward, Scott Smith, as Hockey Canada's chief operating officer, will oversee all day-to-day operations of the organization, through the management and integration of all operational divisions for Hockey Canada. Nicholson will continue to set direction for the organization in collaboration with the board of directors and officers. "Hockey Canada is very fortunate to be able to have quality people involved in our organization, from our staff through to our board members and the member branches," said Nicholson. "I know that this new structure, along with the great staff that we have in place in all areas, will help Hockey Canada continue to lead in the development of hockey at all levels in Canada." Hockey Canada executive committee members Bob Nicholson (President and Chief Executive Officer) has been Hockey Canada's president and CEO since 1998 and with Hockey Canada since 1990. The native of Penticton, B.C., oversees all operations of the organization, both nationally and internationally. Prior to being named president and CEO, Nicholson served as senior vice-president from 1992 to 1998 and vice-president of programs from 1990 to 1991. He joined Hockey Canada after serving as technical director with the British Columbia Amateur Hockey Association from 1979 to 1989. Scott Smith (Chief Operating Officer) joined Hockey Canada's head office in 1997 as director of operations, then vice-president of operations in 1998, and was named chief operating officer in 2007. See 'Execut...' on pg. Continued from pg. Smith was a key person in the growth of the Hockey Canada brand, now recognized as a top sports brand in the world. Smith, in addition to now overseeing day-to-day operations of the organization, will continue to oversee the management and integration of all business units for Hockey Canada. The native of Bathurst, N.B., came to Hockey Canada after serving as manager of hockey operations for Hockey Canada's Atlantic Centre of Excellence from 1995 to 1997 and as executive director of the New Brunswick Amateur Hockey Association from 1991 to 1995. Paul Delparte (Chief Financial Officer) has been with Hockey Canada for over 30 years, joining the organization in 1979 upon graduation from Laurentian University. The native of Sudbury, Ont., started as an administrative assistant with the Canadian Amateur Hockey Association, progressing to his present position as Hockey Canada's vice president of finance/chief financial officer in 1996. Delparte leads all financial operations within Hockey Canada, playing a key role in establishing the organization's strong financial standing and strong reputation nationally and internationally. Paul Carson (Vice-President of Hockey Development) will oversee Hockey Canada's development strategy moving forward in the development of players on both the male and female sides, as well as the development of coaches and officials. The native of Victoria, B.C., joined Hockey Canada in 2002 as director of development in 2001 after 21 years in the education profession and four years (1997 to 2001) as the chair of the Hockey Canada coaching committee. Carson has been instrumental in Hockey Canada's development programs, coming out of the 1999 Molson Open Ice Summit. Scott Farley (Vice-President of Marketing Services and Events) will oversee Hockey Canada's marketing and events, including the development of a new international events department to support Canada's hosting of various major international events. The native of Georgetown, Ont., joined Hockey Canada in 2001 after seven years (1994 to 2001) as general manager of the Ontario Hockey Federation. Farley, in his time with Hockey Canada, has led international hosting, including the successful hosting of numerous major international events, including the IIHF World Junior Championship and IIHF World Women's Championship. Glen McCurdie (Vice-President of Membership Services) will oversee Hockey Canada's membership services and all insurance programs, working with the organization's 13 member branches that deliver hockey programs throughout the country. The native of Manotick, Ont., joined Hockey Canada in 1988 after working in the insurance industry. Over his 22 years with Hockey Canada, he has occupied a variety of positions including manager of health benefits and insurance, progressing to the position of senior director of insurance and member services before this appointment. Hockey Canada's insurance programs are considered among the top programs of its kind in the world. Brad Pascall (Vice-President of Hockey Operations/National Teams) will lead hockey operations for all of Canada's national team programs, including men's, women's and sledge hockey, overseeing player personnel and team staffing. Pascall joined Hockey Canada in 1999 as director of communications, before taking on the role of leading the men's national team programs in 2006. A native of Coquitlam, B.C., Pascall led Canada to great success on the international stage, including gold medals at the 2007, 2008 and 2009 IIHF World Junior Championships and gold at the 2008 IIHF World Under-18 Championship. He also was involved in team operations with the men's Olympic teams in 2002, 2006 and 2010.
