Submitted by SJHL La Ronge The La Ronge Ice Wolves are proud to announce that another one of their graduating 20 year olds has found a place to play next season while getting an education. Goaltender Adam Bartko, who shared the playoff MVP honour with Dayton Fossum, has committed to play at SAIT in Calgary next season. Bartko had perhaps the best season that a La Ronge goalie has had since their time in the SJHL. He posted a regular season record of 27-12-0-2 with one shutout and a goals against average of 2.96. He followed that up in the playoffs with a record of 12-5 with one shutout and a goals against average of 2.52 along with an impressive save percentage of .921. Bartko joins teammates Dayton Fossum, Taylor Piller and Doug Lindensmith as players who are moving on to get an education after good years with the Ice Wolves. He also joins other SJHL grads like Cris Neurauter of the Battlefords, Yorkton's Brant Remenda and Flin Flon's Cory Tyrell who will suit up for the Trojans next season. Yorkton The Yorkton Terriers are pleased to announce that graduating 20-year-old Defenseman Brant Remenda will continue his hockey career in the fall with the SAIT Trojans of the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC). A native of Nipawin, SK, the Terriers acquired Remenda from the Nipawin Hawks at the January 10th trade deadline. In 16 regular season games with the Terriers Remenda tallied seven points. In 41 regular season games played with both Nipawin and Yorkton, Remenda scored three goals to go along with 15 assists. Remenda played perhaps his best hockey in a Terriers uniform in the SJHL playoffs as he was very dominant while registering six points in 15 games. Nipawin Nipawin Hawks coach Doug Johnson has announced he has hired Chad McLeod to be the team's assistant coach/general manager. Johnson and McLeod have worked together in the past with the Billings Bulls of the NAHL. McLeod has also served as the head coach of the Tulsa Rampage of the Western States League. Johnson believes having McLeod assist him will increase their bench presence and the fact that McLeod is a former goaltender will do nothing but help the performance of both returnees Ñ Brody Hoffman and Stephen Klein. The Hawks have also announced they have traded Tanner Dusyk (1992-Montmartre, SK) to the Alberta Junior Hockey League's Bonnyville Pontiacs for forward Eric Peterson (1991-Saskatoon, SK) and defenceman Jesse Williamson (1992-Saskatoon, SK). Peterson had 11 goals and 24 assists for 35 points in 55 games last year while Williamson scored once and assisted on five others in 39 games for the Pontiacs last year. Johnson says this trade allows the Hawks to fill their two biggest needs going into training camp seeing Peterson is fast and skilled while Williamson is big and rugged. He also feels the experience these two will bring into the Nipawin dressing room will be very beneficial. North Battlefords The Battlefords North Stars would like to announce the signing of three players from the Saskatchewan Midget AAA League. Dillion Forbes, Jared Samborski, and Nathan Zimbaluk have all been signed by the North Stars for the 2011-12 SJHL season. Forbes, 18, from Battleford, was the captain of the Battlefords AAA Stars this past season where he had three goals and 10 assists to go along with 154 PIM in 36 games. Jared Samborski, 18, from North Battleford, also captained his AAA Saskatoon Blazers, where he had 16 goals and 19 assists for 35 PTS with 74 PIMS. Nathan Zimbaluk, 18, from Regina, was acquired in a trade last season played for the Regina Pat Canadians where he had five goals and seven assists with 64 PIMS. The North Stars would like to welcome these three to the Battlefords and look forward to seeing them at camp which starts August 31.
