The Flin Flon Kinsmen Bombers hosted the Bantam 'AA' Provincials this past weekend, March 5-7. Flin Flon and eight other teams were competing for the rural provincial championship banner and a ticket to the final four in southern Manitoba later this month. The Bombers were in the red pool with Brandon and Steinbach, and walked through the round robin with wins of 8-4 and 9-3 respectively. Swan Valley and Morden also escaped the round robin undefeated. Swan Valley beat Portage 5-3 and Thompson 9-1, while Morden had a 5-2 victory over Dauphin and doubled up The Pas 8-4. After using goal differential to determine the tie breaker for playoff positioning, Swan Valley and Flin Flon received the bye's into the semifinals, leaving Morden, Portage, Steinbach and The Pas in positions three through six. In the consolation round, Brandon shut out Thompson 7-0 to advance to the consolation final, where they met up with Dauphin. Brandon beat Dauphin 5-2, and the game was called in the third period because the game was getting out of hand. In the championship round, Morden defeated The Pas 10-2 to advance to meet Swan River in the first semifinal. Steinbach edged Portage 3-2 to draw Flin Flon in the second semifinal. The top two teams after the round robin were both eliminated from contention in the semifinals, as Morden beat Swan River 7-2, and Steinbach edged Flin Flon 4-3. Flin Flon played Swan Valley for the bronze medals, and the Bombers beat the Stampeders 5-2. Ryan Fox had a pair of goals for the Bombers, and captain Steven Robinson capped a hat trick with an empty net goal to lead Flin Flon. In the gold medal game, Morden walked all over Steinbach, beating them 12-1 to win the tournament, leaving Steinbach with the silver. Jay Fehr and Tyler Sawatzky had a pair of goals each for Morden, while Jeremy Warkentin and Mike Mutcheson each had three tallies. Chris Reimer and Graham Leiding had singles, while Gionathan Delvecchio scored the lone goal for Steinbach.
