The OCN Blizzard, Portage Terriers and Neepawa Natives continued their duel for first place in the Sherwood Division in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League during the week ending October 12. Five-time champion OCN, Portage and Neepawa each had two wins in three games to remain tied for the lead. OCN has an 8-1-1 record and one overtime loss, for 18 points in 11 games. Portage and Neepawa are each 8-3-1 and have one overtime loss in 13 games. The Selkirk Steelers retained their Addison Division lead. Selkirk is 8-4-0 and has one overtime loss, for 17 points in 13 games. The Winnipeg Saints won three times in three games to advance into second place in the Sherwood Division, at 7-4-0. Veteran Aaron Starr had two goals and one assist October 11 in OCN's 7-3 win over the Winkler Flyers in Winkler. Starr scored three times and added one assist October 12 in a 7-6 win over the Winnipeg South Blues in Winnipeg. Starr leads the league and CJAHL with 17 goals in 11 games. He is tied for the league lead with 26 points. Starr was chosen the league's Old Dutch player of the week after totalling six goals and three assists in three games. Goalie Bryn Davies made 35 stops October 7 in Portage's 4-3 win over the Dauphin Kings in Dauphin. Clifford Ketchen had two goals and one assist October 12 in Portage's 5-2 win over the Swan Valley Stampeders on home ice. Ketchen is tied for the league lead with 26 points in 13 games. Goalie Greg Goodwin had 19 saves October 7 in Neepawa's 3-1 win over the Southeast Blades on Southeast's home ice. Danny Johnston had one goal and two assists October 11 in Neepawa's 8-6 win over Dauphin on home ice. Mike Mendres accumulated one goal and five assists October 10 in Selkirk's 11-3 win over OCN before 1,230 fans in Selkirk. Teammate Kyle Howarth chipped in with one goal and four assists. Matt Johnson contributed two goals and two assists for Selkirk. Gordon McLeod had one goal and one assist October 7 in the Saints' 3-2 win over Selkirk on home ice. Goalie D'Arcy Munroe made 28 stops October 11 in the Saints' 3-2 win over the Swan Valley Stampeders on home ice. Robin Allison had one goal and two assists October 12 in the Saints' 7-3 win over Southeast on Southeast's home ice. Chad Wrixon had one goal and three assists Oct. 10 in Winkler's 4-2 win in Portage la Prairie. Drew Stefan of Portage leads league goalies with a 2.17 goals against average in 360 minutes. As a result of an incident in the game versus the Selkirk Steelers on October 10, player Tyler Ryhorchuk of the OCN Blizzard has been suspended for three games for leaving the player's bench to enter an altercation. As a result of an incident in the game versus the Selkirk Steelers on October 10, head coach Glen Watson of the OCN Blizzard has been suspended for one game for receiving a game misconduct penalty. As a result of an incident in the game versus the Portage Terriers on October 12, head coach Del Pedrick of the Swan Valley Stampeders has been suspended for one game for receiving a game misconduct penalty.
