The Neepawa Natives won their only game during the week ending January 2 to protect their lead in the Sher-Wood Division, and overall, in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League. Neepawa has a 23-8-6 record and two overtime losses, for 54 points in 39 games. The Portage Terriers are second in the division, and overall, at 25-10-3, with one game in hand on Neepawa. The Winkler Flyers have a two-point lead in the Addison Division. Winkler is 22-12-5 and has three overtime losses, for 52 points in 42 games. League-leading goalie Andrew Loewen made 30 stops January 2 in Neepawa's 6-2 win in Portage la Prairie. Loewen has a 2.33 goals against average in 1,543 minutes. Andrew Jackman had two goals December 29 in Portage's 5-4 win over the Waywayseecappo Wolverines on home ice. Colin Slobodian had two goals December 31, including the winning goal in overtime, in Portage's 3-2 win over Winkler on home ice. Winkler veteran Josh Froese continues to lead league scorers. Froese has 32 assists and 55 points in 42 games. Brett Koscielny of the Dauphin Kings leads league goalies with a .930 saves percentage in 1,797 minutes.
