The Neepawa Natives beat the OCN Blizzard in their only game during the week ending January 29 to remain within 11 points of five-time champion OCN in the Sherwood Division in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League. OCN is first overall with a 37-9-3 record and three overtime losses, for 80 points in 52 games. Neepawa is second in the division, at 31-16-4 and three overtime losses in 54 games. The Portage Terriers won twice in two games and are third in the division. Portage is 29-19-3 and has one overtime loss, for 62 points in 52 games. The Selkirk Steelers have a 17-point lead in the Addison Division and are second overall. Selkirk is 37-14-0 and has one overtime loss, for 75 points in 52 games. The Winkler Flyers are second in the division, with a 26-18-3 record and three overtime losses, for 58 points in 50 games. Mark Wallman and Everett Bear had one goal and one assist each January 27 in OCN's 5-3 win over the Dauphin Kings in Dauphin. Veteran goalie Greg Goodwin made 37 stops January 28 in Neepawa's 3-1 win over OCN on home ice. Teammate Mark Hartman had one goal and two assists. Goodwin, 20, was chosen the league's Old Dutch player of the week. Brandon Heck scored three times and added two assists January 27 in Winkler's 11-4 win over the Southeast Blades on home ice. Teammate Josh Froese contributed two goals and two assists. Chad Wrixon and Justin Todd accumulated one goal and three assists each for Winkler. OCN veteran Aaron Starr continues to lead league and CJAHL scorers. Starr, 20, has a league-leading 50 goals and 95 points in 49 games. Michael Young of OCN leads the league with 54 assists in 50 games. Pierre-Olivier Girouard of OCN leads league goalies with a 2.76 goals against average and .921 saves percentage in 1,349 minutes. Veteran D'Arcy Munro of the Winnipeg Saints leads league goalies with 23 wins in 2,539 minutes. Goodwin and Matt Neufeld of Winkler are tied for the league lead with three shutouts each.
