The Selkirk Steelers won two of three games during the week ending January 4 to open a 19 point lead in the Addison Division in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League. Selkirk is also one point out of first place overall, with a 33-11-0 record and one overtime loss, for 67 points in 45 games. The Winkler Flyers are second in the division, at 22-15-2 and two overtime losses in 41 games. The five-time champion OCN Blizzard remains first in the Sherwood Division and overall. OCN is 32-6-2 and has two overtime losses in 42 games. The Neepawa Natives are second in the division, at 26-15-2 and three overtime losses, for 57 points in 46 games. Goalie Justin Harris made 45 stops December 31 in Selkirk's 5-3 win over the Portage Terriers in Portage la Prairie. Skyler Berman had three assists January 4 in Selkirk's 4-3 overtime win over the Southeast Blades on home ice. Veteran Chad Wrixon contributed one goal and three assists January 2 in Winkler's 6-4 win over the Dauphin Kings in Dauphin. Goalie Pierre-Olivier Girouard had 30 saves January 3 in OCN's 5-2 win over Neepawa on home ice in The Pas. Girouard, 20, leads the league with a 2.75 goals against average and .922 saves percentage in 983 minutes. Sunny Boudreault had two goals and one assist December 31 in Neepawa's 6-2 win over the Waywayseecappo Wolverines on home ice. Mark Hartman had two goals January 4 in Neepawa's 2-1 win over OCN in The Pas. Joel Whiteside had four assists December 30 in Waywayseecappo's 7-3 win over Neepawa on home ice. Mike Merner accumulated one goal and three assists December 30 in the Winnipeg Saints' 7-3 win over Southeast on home ice. OCN veteran Aaron Starr, 20, continues to lead league scorers and is tied for the CJAHL lead with 83 points in 39 games. He leads the league and is second in the CJAHL with 42 goals. Michael Young of OCN leads the league with 50 assists in 40 games. Jonathan Meyer of OCN leads league goalies with a 19-3-2 won-lost-tied record in 1,408 minutes. Also, Portage goalie Anthony Marshall was chosen the league's Old Dutch player of the week. Marshall stopped 79 shots, had a .952 saves percentage and 2-0-0 won-lost-tied record in 120 minutes. Dustin Hughes of Selkirk was selected the league's player of the month for December. Hughes, 20, had six goals and 11 assists in 10 games.
