A good crowd was on hand at last Wednesday's Flin Flon/Creighton Minor Ball meeting to show support for the upcoming ball season. "We discussed the future of minor ball in Flin Flon, and decided to go ahead with registration for this year," said Katie Kawerski, minor ball president. "There was no discussion about taking a year off. We felt that if we were to do that, it would kill minor ball altogether. If there is no house league, there will be no rep teams, and we want to be represented." In order to boost interest in the upcoming season, minor ball will be kicking off the season with a barbecue and scrub game on May 8 at the Creighton ball diamond. Registration will be taken at this time, as well as at the Flin Flon Community Hall on April 16 from 4-7 p.m., April 17 from 12-4 p.m., April 23 from 4-7 p.m. and April 24 from 12-4 p.m. The idea behind the barbecue and scrub game is to bring some new people out. Minor ball is also talking about holding an indoor scrub game in the near future, but no date has been set. "Hopefully we will get some kids out," said Kawerski. "I've been approached by quite a few kids, and I can happily tell them now that yes, there will be a ball season. There are a number of diehard players out there, and they are the reason that we keep going." Declining numbers have been a concern for a number of years in Flin Flon, but parents and grandparents showed up on Wednesday to show support for the upcoming season. Aside from players, minor ball is desperately in need of volunteers. Executive members and coaches are needed for the upcoming season. Currently there are only three executive members: Katie Kawerski, Arlene Murray and Virginia Leifso. If you are interested in ball or would like more information, contact Katie at 687-7552.4/14/2004
