As Happy Gilmore would say, "Just taaaaap it in." That's what 54 golfers tried to do with some success during the 16th Annual Cystic Fibrosis Mini Golf Classic on Saturday, raising $7,000. "It was just excellent," said Kinsmen member, Bob Lesage. "It makes me very pleased and proud of my community." People stepped up to the mini greens to support the Kinsmen's main charity. Richard Rebello raised $1,060 while 24 people combined for over $1,100. The fun began at the Copperbelt Hotel, then went to the Legion, and ended at the Victoria Inn. "It's a great fundraiser," said Corliss Patterson, one of the participants. "The Kinsmen is a great service group. We always have a great time and it's a chance to get out with people and meet people." Interacting in the packed Copperbelt Hotel likely wasn't as challenging as the greens. "I know from previous experience that it's very challenging," said Patterson. "It's all luck. Have you had a look at it?" Bruce Brown was also among the 54 playing. "You have a good get together for a good cause," he said. On the Cystic Fibrosis (CF) website of Canada, www.ccff.ca, it states that one in every 3,600 children is born with CF, which damages the lungs and digestive system. No matter how they played, the players didn't walk away empty handed. "We offer a very fun afternoon," Lesage said. "It's low cost and everyone goes home with a prize. "We can't make this happen without the support of the merchants and people in this town."
