Jennifer Milton envisioned a podium position and did just that. Representing Team Manitoba for the Special Olympics Canada Summer Games in Brandon from July 17 to 23, Milton earned gold in the 100 metre backstroke with a time of two minutes 37.3 seconds. When asked if she's proud of what she accomplished, she nodded yes. "I was happy," Milton said of her gold medal-winning feeling. "I got cheers from my team." She also earned a bronze in the 50 metre backstroke and 50 metre freestyle, and silver in the 4x100 metre relay. In the 100 metre freestyle, she placed fifth. "I had fun," Milton said of the experience. The 33-year-old, who was born in Edmonton, can also take satisfaction that she did what she could as her times are personal bests. She credits her coach, Heather Todoschuk, who pushes her hard. Throughout her interview, Milton couldn't help but look at her achievements. "She kicked it up a notch," Todoschuk said, as her role with Team Manitoba was as aquatic manager. "She did what she had to do and gave it her all. "She is a strong part of Team Manitoba," Todoschuk added. When Milton won her gold, Todoschuk said she spent a lot of time jumping up and down yelling as she watched from the stands. "I was so excited for her," she said smiling. "Happy tears for Jenny." As Milton enjoys her medal-winning glory, she's already thinking about the competition in 2010.7/28/2006
