A bump was thrown into the Bombers' winning streak of two games, but the team still walked away with one point after an overtime loss in Melville Wednesday night. The Millionaires sent the Maroon and White home after their 2-1 win in the Melville Stadium. But it wasnÕt all bad news for the Bombers as they now, as of February 7, sit only two points behind the La Ronge Ice Wolves, who lost to Melfort Wednesday. For the Bombers, their game against the home Millionaires saw a little less action than what has been coming out of the team lately. David Linsley scored the lone goal for the team while Scott Day received the only assist for the Bombers. Head Coach and GM Mike Reagan decided to switch things up as Calvin Bartel was in net as he and Millionaire goalie Joe Rodwell battled it out from opposite ends of the ice. For the first time in a while the Bombers were outshot during the game. Bartel saw 39 shots come his way as the Bombers only muzzled up 21 shots of their own. The first period saw no scoring and only one penalty as Dennis Kubat was given two minutes for boarding. Even with a power play the Millionaires were unable to get any of their 11 shots past Bartel. But the Bombers couldnÕt find the back of the net either as they had nine shots on Rodwell. But it was the second period where things got interesting as Linsley, assisted by Day, found the back of the net late into the second period. Both teams spent some time in the box as well as Melville saw two of their players in for tripping and slashing while the Bombers faced three. Kory Gursky was in for hooking, Barrett Penner for roughing and Matt Dyck was sentenced to two minutes for kneeing. And it was only another four shots on Rodwell as Bartel saw another 14 come his way. With the score 1-0 for the visiting Bombers, the Millionaires decided to break BartelÕs shutout as Daniel Hope got things started early on in the period. Leaving the score tied at one by the end of the game, it was off to overtime. But Hope was on his feet again as he found the back of the net to get one past Bartel for the win. The Bombers are back on home ice tomorrow night as they face the Melfort Mustangs and then the Nipawin Hawks are in town for a Tuesday night game. And to finish off the regular season games, the Bombers are in La Ronge on next Friday before the Ice Wolves come to the Whitney Forum next Saturday. The BomberÕs final game will be held Tuesday, February, against the Nipawin Hawks.
