Novice players put their skills to the test at the recent Mel Pearson Memorial Hockey Tournament.
Four Flin Flon teams and eight visiting teams took part in the tournament, held the first weekend in December at the Whitney Forum and the Creighton Sportex.
The Flin Flon teams didn’t fare as well as they had hoped, but gave it their all.
The finals on the A side saw the Thompson Bruins take down the Thompson Leafs 10-2 in the Mel Pearson Event.
In the B side final, in Jack Turner Event, The Pas White doubled up on Swan River 4-2 to take the prize, while The Pas Red had an impressive 7-3 win over the Thompson Canadiens in the Scott Davidson C side final.
The Flin Flon Firemen finished tops among local teams with a 6-4 win over the Thompson Jets in the D final for the Patty Ginnell Event.
The E final saw the Oldtime Bombers down the OCN Blizzard 9-4 in the Cementation event, while Flin Flon’s Reliance Rhinos earned a 6-4 win over Flin Flon’s McKeens in the Shayne Pearson event.
