One of the biggest junior high basketball tournaments of the year wrapped up in Flin Flon last weekend.
Seven teams took part in the boys’ draw of the tournament, with five teams playing on the girls’ side.
Sandy Bay dominated the boys’ side, defeating Scott Bateman of The Pas 50-14 in the final. The Creighton Kodiaks finished third, defeating Ruth Betts in a tight 43-38 deciding game.
Two teams from École McIsaac School faced off for fifth place, with McIsaac McIntosh defeating McIsaac Abbott 16-15 in a game that stayed close throughout. OCN’s Oscar Lathlin Collegiate finished the tournament in seventh.
The girls’ tournament belonged to Scott Bateman, who went undefeated through a four game round-robin to earn first spot. Oscar Lathlin Collegiate finished second, only losing to their cross-town rivals during the weekend.
Area schools made up the last three spots in the standings. Creighton ended up in third place, defeating McIsaac 31-24 and Ruth Betts 54-20. McIsaac staved off last place by beating Ruth Betts 34-18, giving them fourth position and sending Ruth Betts to last after a winless tournament.
