Saskatchewan Roughrider kicker Paul McCallum today announced that he is placing his kicking shoes and helmet on eBay to help support the Red Cross Asia Earthquake and Tsunami Relief Fund. McCallum missed two key field goals, including one in overtime, during the CFL Western Final last November between the Saskatchewan Roughriders and the BC Lions. "A lot of folks got pretty upset Ð some more than others, mind you Ð about my performance during the Western Final that night," McCallum said. "The events in South Asia over the past couple of weeks have shown the world what a real disaster is. No loss in any sport should ever be called a disaster when you look at the suffering millions of people are now going through." For the past three seasons, McCallum has been the official spokesperson for Catch for KidSport, helping to raise money for less fortunate Saskatchewan children to participate in community sports programs. "I work every year to raise money for less fortunate kids here at home and that work is continuing.ÊBut as a parent, my heart truly goes out to the children and their families impacted by this disaster on the other side of the world.ÊIf some good can come from what happened on the field during that game last year, I'm all for it." The shoes and helmet used by McCallum in the November 14, 2004 CFL Western Final will be auctioned off on eBay until January 16, 2005.ÊAlso included in the auction will be an autographed photo of Roger Aldag and Bob Poley with the 1989 Grey Cup trophy.ÊProceeds from the auction will benefit both the Red Cross Asia Earthquake and Tsunami Relief Fund and KidSport Saskatchewan. These items can be found at www.ebay.ca using the keywords 'Kicking Shoes' or 'Roughriders'. People interested in making a donation directly to the Red Cross may do so at www.redcross.ca. Donations may be made directly to KidSport Saskatchewan by calling 1-800-319-GAME.
