In the soccer game that was supposed to open Foster Park in Flin Flon, the Selects took on the Bombers in a different type of Maroon and White game. Rob Hart and Don Kirkham each put together a team. The Selects, dressed in white and made up of 100 per cent local talent, took on the Bombers in their maroon coloured shirts at Phantom Lake. The crowd was unsure what to think for the first few minutes as the Selects had 11 players on the field... but the Bombers showed up with the entire team at once. Once that was figured out and a few players sat down, the game was on. With Hart in net for the Selects, the Bombers scored their first goal early on... and their second. Hart threw in the towel, for the timebeing, and pulled himself out of net, until the score was little more even. Sitting at 3-0, the Selects pulled their socks up and scored their first goal of the game. As the Bombers ran down the field it seemed as though some of them forgot they were playing soccer and added some full contact into the game. But the game, originally scheduled for Foster Park but moved because that field wasnÕt quite ready, went on. And to help his team out a little, Kirkham was on the field playing for the Bombers. Both the Selects and the Bombers earned another goal, making it 4-2. Hart made his way back ito the game. And for the Bombers, just after the three minute whistle, coaches Mike Reagan and Trevor Sack decided to join the game. But by the time they decided who to take out, it was over. A deal was made between Hart and Kirkham that Hart gets to choose the next sport, since soccer didnÕt seem to be his game. Just a hunch, but Kirkham may have to learn to skate.
