Kelly Carrington Staff Writer Generally considered tough competition, the Humboldt Broncos have gone down in defeat to the Flin Flon Bombers for the second time in four days. On home ice the Bombers blanked the Broncos 4-0 on Saturday, Oct. 27. Then on the road last Wednesday night, Oct. 31, they defeated them 4-1. The road win added to the team's five-game winning streak. Bomber captain Dylan Balaski got the scoring started at 5:26 of the first period with help from Riley Storzuk. In the second period teammates Josh Roach and Brett Penner found the back of the net. First was Roach on a power play just 43 seconds in with assists going to Storzuk and Balaski to make it 2-0. Penner was close behind as he made it a 3-0 game at 4:21 with help from Dallen Hall and Storzuk. The Broncos earned their lone marker of the night at 4:19 of the final period as Cody Pongracz got one past Devin Buffalo. But Flin Flon's Cam Blair sealed the deal with an empty net marker at 19:36 to make it a 4-1 game. Following Wednesday's game against the Broncos, the Bombers remained on top of the Bauer Conference with 26 points. The Maroon and White held an impressive 13-3-0-0 record. Flin Flon remained one point behind the Melville Millionaires for first place in the SJHL. With a 13-2-0-1 record, Melville had 27 points and sat atop the Sherwood Conference. The Yorkton Terriers were third in the league as they sat with 21 points in the Sherwood Conference and a record of 10-4-0-1. Also sitting with 21 points, but with an extra game, were the Broncos with a record of 10-5-1-0, good for second in the Bauer Conference. Top goalie Buffalo's five consecutive wins helped give him the best goals-against average of any netminder in the league with 1.92, as of Friday morning. In total, he had spent 782 minutes in net, turning away 375 of the 400 shots that came his way. Melville's Alex Wakaluk was second with a GAA of 1.96. He had played 675 minutes between the pipes, making 319 saves on 341 shots. The Bombers took the weekend off and are back on the road tomorrow night as they battle the Nipawin Hawks. Last Tuesday the visiting Bombers downed the Hawks 3-1 and will look for a repeat tomorrow. Following tomorrow's game the Bombers will be in Melfort on Wednesday for the first time since they hosted the Mustangs in their home opener. The Bombers have won both match-ups with the Mustangs this season by scores of 5-2 and 4-2.
