For the first time in the school's history, Many Faces Education Centre will be participating in a sporting event. This weekend, a contingent of wrestlers will be participating in a tournament, held at McIsaac School. While Many Faces will be sending grapplers ranging from grades 9-12, the tournament will have wrestlers from grades 4-12, and will include participating from high schools, junior high schools and elementary schools from across the north. "It's nice to see participation is still strong in the North," said coach Craig McIntosh, who started the wrestling program at Many Faces earlier this year. "I'm extremely excited to start this program here. We don't have enough of a student body to start a basketball team or a volleyball team, but we're trying to give the students opportunities to join selected sports." Because Many Faces is not a part of the Manitoba High School Athletics Association, they cannot participate in any sanctioned tournaments. However, since wrestling is not recognized by the MHSAA, McIntosh saw this as an opportunity to introduce some of the kids to a new sport, and encourage participation in other sports for next year. McIntosh added that next year he hopes to start teams in other individual sports such as track and field and badminton. The wrestling tournament will take place at the McIsaac School gymnasium this Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. It is expected that 200 students from across the North will be participating.
