The Red River Ex runs June 18 to 27 and Culture, Heritage and Tourism Minister Flor Marcelino reminds everyone to visit the award-winning CentrePlace Manitoba, which was located in Vancouver during the recent Winter Olympics. "The pavilion showcases our province's tourism, business and immigration, and highlights Manitoba's opportunity and prosperity," said Marcelino. "During the Olympics and Paralympics, CentrePlace was the world's window to Manitoba." Marcelino noted the Canadian Museum for Human Rights (CMHR) exhibit at the pavilion will also be available for viewing. "Thousands of Canadians and international tourists were captivated by the museum's display during the Olympics and Paralympics," said Stuart Murray, president and CEO, CMHR. "The museum is giving people a new reason to visit Winnipeg and giving Winnipeggers yet a new source of pride. Be sure to come see the display at the Ex." During the Winter Olympics and Paralympics, over 121,000 people visited CentrePlace. CentrePlace Manitoba is a 2,560-square-foot, prefabricated, sustainable building designed by Manitoba's Cibinel Architects. The pavilion won a Sustainability Star from the Vancouver Organizing Committee for the 2010 Olympics. The pavilion features a recyclable outer wall and reclaimed elm woodwork throughout. The design is intended to reflect Manitoba's diversity, from sculpted landforms to lakes and rivers to the province's vibrant urban centres. Inside the building, visitors will be able to see panoramic video presentations and virtual tours of Manitoba. Visitors will also get a preview of the CMHR, a partner in the pavilion, through a series of interactive exhibits. Ownership of the CentrePlace building, equipment and exhibits has been transferred to the Red River Exhibition. In exchange, the exhibition is rebuilding the structure at no cost to the province and will pay for the ongoing operation of the building. The provincial government will retain ownership of the intellectual property contained in the Manitoba videos and displays used in the building. "We are proud to give CentrePlace a home here at The Red River Ex," said Garth Rogerson, CEO, Red River Exhibition Association. "This location will provide Manitobans and tourists alike with a golden opportunity to see this souvenir of the 2010 Winter Games, that puts our province in the spotlight." CentrePlace Manitoba will be located in the north end of Red River Exhibition Park, adjacent to Kiddie Land.
