Fans and supporters of the Flin Flon Bombers made their way to Main Street last week as they checked out the new digs for the team. Hot dog and drink sales as well as a donation box helped bring in $1,905 for the team. All those who contributed to the donation box of $40 or more had their name put into a raffle for their chance to travel to a road game with the team on their new bus. Roz Kirkham was the lucky winner as a seat to Melfort was reserved just for her. The Fuel the Bomber Season campaign's collection of $1,905 will go towards filling the large tank. Organizer of the fundraiser Cathy Lofgren, of Your Dollar Store With More, says everyone was pleased at the end of the day. '...selling hot dogs and a drink and raising $1,900, that's pretty good,' said Lofgren. The bus was parked on Main Street for the entire day Wednesday, but only open for tours later in the afternoon and early evening. 'The kids were looking at the bus and loved being able to go on it and see where the Bombers sit,' she said. Throughout the four-hour fundraiser Lofgren says roughly 100 people stopped by for a bite to eat and a chance to see the new wheels. Twelve of the team's players were out on the street as they got to meet a few fans and supporters. 'It was just awesome,' said Lofgren, noting that it was great to see all the community support. Last week's fundraiser was so successful that Lofgren hopes to make more fundraisers happen for the team. 'This was for the kids,' she said, though adults were more than encouraged to take a tour, as well. 'But maybe if we could do something for the adults _ like a wine tour.' Lofgren has begun looking into hosting an adult wine tour next month, but says there are some hoops to jump through first. She says in the meantime she is also working with the club to make the players more involved in the community at things like Christmas parties and the annual tree lighting at Pioneer Square. 'I'd like to see more of a presence in this town,' she said, 'and make them feel more welcome and a part of our town.' Lofgren plays the mother card as she says 'they are just young boys without their families here.' 'They are just such nice, young men,' she said. The Bombers are the lone organization in the SJHL to own their own bus. 'It is pretty spectacular,' said Lofgren. The organizer hopes to continue the fundraisers for the Bombers for the 2013-14 season and is open to any suggestions.
