Losing streak shows Bombers need to add character: Reagan

Mike Reagan is promising changes after the Flin Flon Bombers went 0-4 on last week’s road trip – extending their winless skid to six games.

“We found out a lot about this team and that we need to add character and find some scoring,” said Reagan, the team’s head coach and general manager. “We have guys capable of scoring but aren’t doing the little things you need to in order to get out of a slump. “The one positive is that we aren’t blinded by success and that we are finding out early enough in the season that we can do something about it.”

Reagan emphasized that the team is still confident it will be in the mix. He said the squad is in better shape now than at this time last year, but added that changes will be coming.

Flin Flon’s four road losses came 5-3 in Humboldt on Wednesday, 6-5 in Estevan on Thursday, 5-0 in Weyburn on Saturday and 4-0 to Notre Dame in Wilcox. All told Flin Flon was outscored 20-8.

Reagan said the team played its best game of the road trip in Wilcox.

“We looked like the team we know we can be – outskating and getting lots of rubber to the net [outshooting the Hounds 36-16] – but when you struggle you just don’t get the breaks,” he said, noting the team hit two crossbars and a pair of posts.

The Bombers are now 6-6-1-1. Heading into Tuesday’s action, that was good for first place in the Sherwood Division, up two points on Nipawin. Flin Flon returns home this weekend to host the Kindersley Klippers.
