With the nice weather lately, the new outdoor rink on Creekside is getting a lot of use. The paved surface that supports the rink in winter will double as a basketball court/rollerblading rink in the summer. The rink, which was phase one of the project, is near completion but it is still missing a backstop on the east end. The Creekside Improvement Project Board, with head chair Rene Beauchamp, is currently raising money in an effort to continue improvements to the park. "We are a small group, and we are fundraising for a playground structure as phase two," said vice-chair Cindi Lee. "We would like the structure to go next to the multi-purpose paved surface. Phase one is already getting so much use." With school out on Monday, kids of all ages took advantage of the extra day to play on the rink. School age kids, as well as preschoolers from two licensed home daycares in the area were out on the ice. "As the kids finished on the rink they played on a mountain of snow nearby," said Lee. "Maybe soon they will be able to play on a play structure if they don't want to skate." Currently, the Creekside Improvement Project Board is selling 50-50 tickets. The draw date is March 14.
