Kelly Carrington Staff Writer Sports Day in Canada hit the fields, rinks and pools of Flin Flon and Denare Beach on Sept. 17. The nationwide campaign encouraged communities to participate in recreational and sporting events. Locally, residents were invited to the Flin Flon Aqua Centre for a free swim as well as the Whitney Forum for a free skate. On the Saskatchewan side, human foosball and horseshoes were set up in Denare Beach. Throughout the country other activities included a women's triathlon, men's rugby, swimming and gymnastics, as posted on CBC Sports Day in Canada's website. "Sports Day in Canada...is a national celebration of sport, from grassroots to high-performance levels, in communities across Canada," read the website. "Sports Day in Canada caps off a week of thousands of local sporting events and activities, open houses and try-it days showcasing sport at all levels. It's an opportunity for all Canadians to celebrate the power of sport to build community, fortify our national spirit and facilitate healthy, active living." Sports Day in Canada locally encouraged residents to participate in a variety of activities.
