They failed to earn a Pee Wee Western Canadian Championship berth with the Flin Flon Mustangs fastball team during Manitoba Fastball Provincials, but Travis Fehr and cousin Tyson Kinaschuk are getting a second chance. After losing to the Dryden Jr. Trappers and being eliminated, the Peguis Braves picked up the pair as they advance to the Pee Wee Western Canadian Championship in Calahoo, Alberta from August 4-6. The Braves finished first during provincials. "I played on the team last year and they were really nice to me," Travis said. "I think we'll do really good because we have some big hitters on the team. We have my cousin Ð he's a good pitcher." Travis is excited about seeing and playing against a higher caliber of talent because he said it will help him learn from his mistakes. Tyson is also making a return to this competition, as he played with the Jr. Trappers last year. "It's gonna be hard," Tyson said when asked what the championships are going to be like. He feels that Peguis has a pretty strong team. "I think we might get a couple wins this year. Not like last year Ð we lost every one," he said. Even though the Mustangs lost to the Trappers 7-3 and finished third, Tyson enjoyed playing for Flin Flon. Like Travis, Tyson is looking forward to the caliber of competition. "Just how competitive it is," said the Benito, Man., resident. "It's more competition, not like here is kind of easier." As both players strive to help their new team succeed, they have hopes for playing on Canada's junior team in the future. Who knows, it may just happen.
